Attn ALL Bunny Folks Out There:
It is against the law to steal animals off another person's property. Stealing is theft. Theft is stealing. We realize that at this time of year (dumping season) it can be extraordinarily easy to find many people who are housing their rabbits incorrectly, possibly not caring for them or feeding them even, but you CANNOT walk onto their property and take them. It's illegal! If you see a questionable situation, call the proper authorities. You can't say, "Oh I can't call Animal Control because they'll only euthanize". You don't know that for certain! When you place the call, let AC know that you can help find the rabbit(s) a proper home or you can come in and care for the rabbit(s), but DON'T put yourself in the position of being prosecuted for theft and paying a HUGE fine that many can nary afford these days. We've received many calls over the past few days asking us to walk onto properties and take rabbits that are sickly, but we've received NO permissions from the owners/landlords and/or AC to be able to do that. Therefore, we don't do it! Any person advising you to steal animals is advising you to commit a CRIME. Just don't do it! The court will not care if your heart is bleeding. Proper channels must be followed. This "bunny vigilantism" needs to stop. We can't speak for other rescues out there, but we are dedicated to following proper procedures and the law here at Clover Patch so please no more requests for theft. It isn't happening here!
